Rich Guillen

I was always very interested in the martial arts. One day on the ABC wide world of sports, I happened to see Joe Lewis defend his title. This was full contact. I didn't know if it was called "karate" or "kickboxing", but I knew that I wanted to learn how to fight like that. As it happens, two of my friends were training with Dennis Nackord. It didn't take long for me to be convinced that this school was the real thing...

After about six months I received an orange belt at American Karate studios in Ardmore. This was in April, 1977. We trained in Kenpo, Japanese Shotokan, and American boxing. In 1981 I received a brown belt from Dennis Nackord.

There are many instructors who have helped me throughout the years. Some of them are Roy Kleckner, Jack Morris, and of course Dennis Nackord. I was fortunate to be introduced to guest instructors such as Ed Parker (whenever he was touring on the East coast), Joe Lewis, Dan Insosanto, Remy Presas, and more recently D. Maung Gyi.

I received my black belt from Dennis Nackord in January, 1994, and was recently promoted in April, 2000 to 3rd degree black belt by Dennis Nackord and Joe Lewis. Presently I am continuing training with the NKKS in Wayne.
